Inspection Carried Out to Ensure Prices of Commodities

DUBAI - An inspection tour of the Union Co-operative Society and the fruits and vegetable market in Al Awir was carried out on Tuesday by a senior delegation from the UAE Ministry of Economy (MoE) to monitor prices at the outlets and ensure commodity prices stay in line with buying prices during the month of March.

The tour was conducted to extend the government’s focus on affordable pricing and consumer protection across the emirates.

Dr Hashim Al Nuaimi, director of the MoE’s consumer protection department, said that the ministry will continue to be vigilant about commodity prices across the UAE, beginning with the nation’s leading retailers participating in activities marking the fourth Gulf consumer protection day.

So far, more than 500 commodities are being offered at buying prices this month following agreements between the ministry and Lulu supermarket, co-operative society and Carrefour chains.

The director also expressed his gratitude to a majority of retailers at the Al Awir fruit and vegetable market participating in the ministry-led promotion. The ministry, he added, is engaged in talks to encourage greater participation from the retail sector.
