‘Weather Causes Mood Swings’

DUBAI - While many enjoy the overcast skies and the brief rainy spell, others feel gloomy and sad, says a health expert.

People have different psychological reactions to weather changes, says Dr Hamden Raymond, clinical and forensic psychologist from the Human Relations Institute at Knowledge Village in Dubai.

“Winter and rain can be a difficult time for some people. They might feel closed, claustrophobic. They may prefer sunlight to rain which may make them feel dark, gloomy and sad.”

Though undocumented, studies prove that weather affects the mood. Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a syndrome characterised by depression during winter months when there is less daylight.
