Tender for Federal Railway Project to be Floated in 2015

ABU DHABI - The tender for the proposed Federal Railway Project connecting all emirates will be floated in 2015, Minister of Public Works Shaikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan told the Federal National Council (FNC) on Tuesday.

He said the project has been submitted to the higher authorities after the ad hoc committee constituted by the Federal government conducted an exhaustive study.

УThe passenger-cum-cargo trains will connect all emirates, providing an effective solution to the woes like traffic jams and environmental pollution,Ф he said.

The National Transport Authority is currently drafting laws needed to implement the project, in addition to planning the route.

Answering questions of FNC members, Shaikh Hamdan said his ministry is chalking out a comprehensive transport plan in association with the National Transport Authority. The plan will also feature the UAE Transport Model.

УIt will identify the actual requirements of various transport modes Ч by land or sea Ч up to 2030,ТТ he said.

The minister said some local bodies did not abide by the international standards of road construction and had connected many internal roads with highways and allowed buildings to come up very close to the roads obstructing the flow of traffic.

Road projects worth Dh558 million have been completed as per the highest technical standards.
