Motorists Advised to Drive Carefully in Foggy Conditions

ABU DHABI - The General Department for Traffic Coordination at the Ministry of Interior has issued a list of instructions to motorists while driving in fog when visibility drops.

As per the instructions, motorists should reduce the speed gradually and drive at a controlled speed that suits the conditions.

Motorists should make sure that all lights of the vehicle are in good working condition. They should also use dim lights as the headlights reflect water drops in the fog, thus making visibility difficult.

Fog lights have to be switched on if available in the car. The motorists have to be patient and avoid overtaking and changing lanes. Always follow the traffic signals on the road.

They have also been instructed to leave double space than usual between two vehicles and be alert for any possible mishap.

They must keep themselves away from any distractions like mobile phones and make sure that the windscreens and mirrors are clean.

If the fog is thick, the motorists should stop the vehicles away from the road and vehicular traffic and turn the hazard lights on, the instructions read. Never stop the vehicle on the road as that could cause mishaps, including vehicle pile-ups.

They are advised not to speed even if the fog starts clearing as the fog can get thick again.

They must use low-beam lights in poor visibility. Before starting a journey, motorists are advised to listen to the weather forecast bulletin and the condition of traffic.

They must cancel the journey if the situation is really bad, the instructions said.
