Now, SMS on Utility Bills for Sharjah Residents

Sharjah— Residents of Sharjah will soon be able to receive SMS alerts on their utility bills, and make payments at shopping centres, malls, cooperative societies, banks and post offices all over the emirate.

Also starting next year, Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA) will open 10 customer services centres in densely populated areas.

SEWA Director-General Al Waleed bin Khadem pointed out that the new centres will be located in areas, including Al Tawun, Al Garayen, Muraija, Sajja Nouf, Abu Dang, Al Nasseriya, Industrial area 17 as well as other industrial areas.

These centres will be provided with advanced technology system to facilitate the services including applying for new services, follow-up on new connections, paying bills and other utilities services.

Bin Khadem told Khaleej Times that this project is a part of the development scheme to enhance its services. It will also contribute to reducing traffic jams and save time and efforts of the consumers.

With huge crowds being witnessed at the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority office every month, these centres will ease things for the employees as well, the official said.

Currently, there are Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority offices located in Al Nasiriya, Industrial Area, Halwan and Muraija. These offices serve residents of many adjoining areas.

The old offices will be enhanced to provide services to a larger number of people.

SEWA is planning to expand them and hire more customer services staff to meet the increasing number of consumers. Bin Khadem also pointed out that residents will be able to pay their bills through post offices, even if they are located in a different emirate.

Dh2 will be charged for the service.

The residents also will be able to pay bills in 10 banks approved by SEWA.

These banks include Dubai Islamic Bank, City Bank, Union National Bank, Al Mashreq Bank, Dubai Commercial Bank, HSBC, Arabic Bank, Investment Bank, Holland General Bank and Emirates Islamic Bank.
