Special gifts for special needs children

Dubai – The face of 17-year-old Arnaud radiated a wide smile as he and his friends from the Dubai Centre for Special needs were handed Christmas gifts by officials of Mall of the Emirates and Kempinski Hotel, Dubai.

Following a month-long charity initiative at the mall, the centre was given a cheque of Dh40,025, and the children were given Christmas gifts donated by generous mall visitors on Wednesday. The money was raised from the Kempinski’s annual stollen cake baking event held at the hotel, also on Wednesday.

Shirley Bruce, the student coordinator of Dubai Centre for Special Needs, said, “We are really grateful to the mall officials for making a donation at this time of financial turmoil.

“We have 133 students and each child requires a spending of Dh54,000 per year. “Organisations like ours are highly dependant on funds from the public.”

A kind gesture

Barbier Marie Laure and Karen Casaki, whose children are students at the Centre, said they were obliged to the organisers. “Any initiative where money is raised for the centre is highly appreciated.”

Barbier Marie Laure whose son Arnaud is a student at the centre, said, “The centre is in desperate need for funds. An official of the Mall of the Emirates said, “We believe that the sentiment of giving is above all and we are happy to know that we have made the children’s Christmas a lot more brighter.”
