Abu Dhabi Authorities to Ensure Hygiene During Eid

ABU DHABI/UMM AL QUWAIN - The Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) has warned residents and expatriates who live in Abu Dhabi not to slaughter animals at their homes, business places and outside the buildings to avoid health hazards.

Speaking to Khaleej Times, Mohammed Jalal Al Reyaysa, spokesperson at the ADFCA said: “The authority will launch an extensive drive to monitor food outlets and slaughter houses to ensure safe and hygienic meat and foodstuff.”

The authority has also distributed brochures among residents regarding food safety and precautions.

He urged consumers to file complaints on the authority’s toll free number 8006565 if they find any violation at the slaughterhouses or food outlets during and after the Eid celebrations. It will remain open during the holidays.

Meanwhile, the municipality of Umm Al Quwain will continue with its surprise inspection campaigns at the markets on Eid Al Adha, according to Dr Musapah Rashid Humaid, director general of the civic body.

He said the concerned departments municipality would monitor the 
markets, particularly, the livestock section, which has witnessed hikes in prices.

Dr Musapah also warned the public not to slaughter animals outside the abattoir, which would be punishable.

The municipality has increased the number of workers for this purpose.

He noted that in order to avoid congestion during the slaughtering process, the municipality has adopted a system based on numbers.

Ghanem Ali, head of health department of the Umm Al Quwain Municipality said veterinarians, technicians and workers will be posted at the abattoir from 6am till 10pm so that they can examine the animals before and after slaughter.

He said there would be identity cards for the butchers and uniforms would be mandatory.

The animals will be subjected to a medical test before slaughter, which is not available on the streets.
