14 Killed in Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah Road Accidents During Holidays

AJMAN/RAS AL KHAIMAH - Four Indians were killed and another four were seriously injured in a horrific accident during Eid in Ajman near the Al Helaiwe bridge.

The injured were fighting for their lives at the Intensive Care Unite of Khalifa hospital.

Colonel Obaid Humaid Al Matroushi, head of the operations room of Ajman Police said the salon car in which the four Indians killed, were travelling in, was moving in the middle lane at a high speed.

It was hit from the side by a truck which was also carrying four Indian expatriates.

Due to the impact, both vehicles turned over several times.

Colonel Al Matroushi said despite the efforts being made by the police to reduce accidents, motorists continue to ignore traffic laws.

In Ras Al Khaimah, (RAK) at least 10 people died and 115 sustained serious to moderate injuries in 879 road accidents registered in RAK during the recent holidays, according to a media statement from the police.

Lt-Col Ahmed Abdul Rahman Al Bugham, chief of the Patrol Section at the Traffic and Licensing Department in Ras Al Khaimah attributed most of the accidents to speeding, reckless driving, worn-out tyres especially those of heavy trucks, in addition to the failure of the motorists to observe traffic rules and regulations.

According to the statement, nearly 92 people have died in road accidents in RAK this year.
