Escalator Catches Fire at Mall in Bur Dubai

DUBAI — There were no casualties or major damage when an escalator on the first floor at BurJuman Centre in Bur Dubai caught fire at around 11am due to a short circuit, on Friday.

The blaze was contained in a record time, according to a civil defence source. The fire filled the centre with smoke and destroyed the decorations of the escalator.

The visitors at the shopping centre were evacuated as a precautionary measure. “Though no casualties were reported, the building was evacuated, in collaboration with the Dubai Police, as a precautionary measure,” the source said.

Generators Catch Fire

Three generators, positioned closely together between two villas in the Satwa area caught fire at around 5pm, on Friday.

Civil defence teams rushed to the spot and managed to control the blaze. According to the local residents, two wires running across the street and connected to the generators might have caused the fire.

There has been no information of any casualties or injuries as a result of the fire.
